From the earliest stages of life, regular farrier care ensures balanced growth, sound movement, and long-term athletic potential. Thoughtful, age-appropriate trimming supports both physical development and mental calmness, preparing each Lusitano for a healthy future.

Why Farrier Care Matters

 Healthy hooves are fundamental to a horse’s wellbeing and performance. Regular farrier work:

·Supports correct limb alignment and posture

·Prevents hoof deformities and long-term soundness issues

 Early, consistent farrier care allows small adjustments to be made gradually, avoiding stress and corrective issues later in life.

Timing and Procedure (Each Age)

Foals (Birth to Weaning)

·Gentle observation and minimal trimming when needed

·Focus on natural balance and correct growth

·Positive exposure to handling and hoof care

Young Horses (Post-Weaning to 2 Years)

·Regular trims to guide proper hoof development

·Reinforcement of calm behavior during farrier visits

·Continued correction of minor imbalances

Young Adults & Training Horses

·Maintenance trimming or shoeing according to workload, usually every 8 weeks aproximately (may vary according to horse needs or technician availability).

·Support for training, sport, or work requirements

·Ongoingcollaboration between trainer, veterinarian, and farrier
