Monte Barrão Moments

 At Monte Barrão, we believe that raising a good horse begins long before formal training.

 Our two-year-old Lusitanos are born and raised on our stud farm in Portugal, where they spend their days in the fields, growing up alongside other horses and developing at their own pace.

 Each youngster has a personality of their own. Some are naturally curious and quick to approach, while others are a little more reserved. All are accustomed to human presence and are familiar with being approached and gently handled.

 At this age, they are beginning to learn the basics of handling, including lifting their feet, as part of their gradual introduction to everyday care.​

 We believe these early experiences matter. Growing up in a natural environment, interacting with other horses and building confidence around people are all important parts of a young horse's development.

 Our two-year-olds are at the beginning of their journey. Their character, movement, conformation and bloodlines offer different possibilities for the future, whether for dressage, working equitation or leisure riding.

 Rather than rushing their development, we give them time to grow, allowing their individual qualities to emerge before the next stages of their education begin.
