At Monte Barrão Stud Farm, this stage is critical as it lays the foundation for the horse’s entire future career, whether in sport, leisure, or breeding. When conducted correctly, the young horse develops trust, confidence, and willingness, ensuring optimal harmony between horse and rider. Training is led by Fernando Pinheiro Bonito, whose extensive experience and dedication shape well-educated, confident horses prepared for both performance and companionship.

Following weaning, the foals progress to the next stage of handling. Daily routines involve gentle haltering during feeding, helping them become accustomed to standing calmly and fostering trust. This consistent early handling significantly facilitates subsequent breaking and training processes.
